Open Division Point System Rules

               
1. The horse to be nominated must be registered in the International Buckskin Horse Association.
2. The owner of the horse must be a member in good standing with both MABA and IBHA.
3. Nominated horses start to accumulate points from the time of the nomination, or the date of the
postmark of the completed application form, with fees paid. No previous show or classes will count. There
is no cut off date for nomination.
4. Points Secretary and ONLY POINTS SECRETARY to receive completed nomination form with all fees
prior to show start. In the absence of the points person, the highest ranking MABA officer in attendance
will be responsible. However, it is strongly suggested that nominations be handled by mail prior to shows.
5. Notice of sale of nominated horses must be reported in writing to MABA Points Secretary within five
(5) days of sale. Upon receiving written notice of sale, Points Secretary will notify new owner of  horse's
point status. A sold horse may continue to show and accumulate points provided the new owner becomes a
member of IBHA and MABA within ten (10) days.
6. A nomination fee of $15.00 will be charged for each category in the point system. No fee is charged for
High Point and Reserve High Point titles as listed in Rule #8.

8. The High Point and Reserve Hight Point titles are: High Point Halter, Reserve High Point Halter, High
Point Performance, Reserve High Point Performance, High Point All Around Horse, Reserve High Point
All Around Horse.
9. Points will be awarded to ribbon winners according to the number of horses in the class, up to 15 points.
For example, in a class with 8 horses, the first place horse will receive 8 points, the second place horse
will receive 7 and so on.
10. The Grand Champion halter horse or each sex division will receive at least one point more than any
other yearling or halter horse in its sex division. The Reserve Champion Halter Horse of each sex
division will receive as many points as any other yearling or older horse in its sex division except the
Grand Champion.
11. In order to encourage all exhibitors to participate in the point system and to prevent the point system
from becoming an endurance contest, only the top 15 classes (most points earned) in which each horse
participated at halter and only the top 15 classes in which each horse participated in performance shall be
counted in the determination of High Point Winners for each class or event. These best 15 classes may or
may not be from the same show.
12. Participating nominated horse owners ONLY are eligible to file a complaint against the show, judge,
and/or another exhibitor.
13. High point eligibility: A minimum or 20 points in required per category to be eligible for year-end
awards in that category. EXCEPTION: 20 point minimum is waived for the Walk Trot 10 & Under.
14. All Around Awards Eligibility: minimum 10 points must be earned in halter, along with 20 points in
performance. Neither the dun factor points nor the longe line points will count towards the point minimum
in either halter or performance, nor will the respective points earned in either class be included in the
total for the all-around award.
15. In cases where a tie occurs, the horse will be declared all-around when: 1) horse earned points in the
greatest number of events; 2) horse or contestant winning over the greatest number of horses; and 3)
horse earned the most points in performance events.
16. Five bonus points will be given in each class per day to every nominated horse that exhibits in that
class at the MABA State Show.
17. Any inquiries pertaining to the point system shall be made to the points secretary.
 

 

 

Amateur Division Point System Rules


1. To be eligible for MABA Amateur points, the amateur must be a current member and in good standings
of both MABA and IBHA and also hold a current IBHA Amateur card.
2. The amateur must be 19 years of age or older as of January 1 of the year applying or must be
otherwise ineligible for the IBHA Youth Activity Program. For IBHA show purposes the ago of the
individual as of January 1 will be maintained throughout the calender year.
3. Only horses registered with IBHA and solely owned by the amateur contestant or by the contestant's
spouse, child, stepchild, legal ward, father, mother, stepparent, sister, brother, grandparent or legal
guardian may be exhibited by that amateur in amateur events. The records of IBHA must have evidence
such as ownership and the registration certificate must show as owner, by proper endorsement of IBHA at
the time the horse is entered in any amateur class. Horses under lease to but not owned by any of the
persons named previously do not qualify for amateur events. Horses registered in the named of a ranch,
farm, corporation, or business are excluded from competition. Horses owned by partnership or jointly with
any person other than those previously listed above do not qualify for amateur events.

6. Once a horse is nominated with an amateur for an event, only that amateur can show that horse in
nominated amateur events for the points. To be eligible for the All Around Amateur Award a rider may
use only one horse for amateur classes, however, a rider may use another horse in a given event but
those points will not count for all around.
7. There may be one change of horse for the season due to either injury or sale of the first horses. If a
horse is to be replaced for the amateur event, notice must be given in writing stating so, and the
replacement horse must be registered in the IBHA and continue to be used for the balance of the year.
8. A fee of $15.00 will be charged for each high point category in the amateur point system. A blanket
nomination fee of $45.00 covers nominations in 3 or more categories. No fee is charged for high point or
reserve high point titles as listed in rule #10.

12. In determining the umber of horses in a class, every horse that enters the show ring and is judged will
be considered an entry unless ineligible. The show committee records, as submitted to the MABA Points
Secretary, will be used to determine points.
13. In order to encourage all exhibitors to participate in the point system and to prevent the point system
from becoming an endurance contest, only the top 15 classes (most points earned) n which each amateur
participated shall be counted in the determination of high point winners of each class or event. These best
15 classes may or may not be from the same show.

Youth Activity Division Point System Rules


1.To be eligible for MABA youth points, the youth must be a member in good standings of both MABA
and IBHA. You th must also hold a current IBHA youth card.
2. The youth must be no more than 18 years of age as of January 1 of the yeah applying for membership.
A youth who is 18 years of age on January 1 will be considered 18 years of age for the balance of that
calendar year for youth horse show purposes.
3. Only horses registered with IBHA and solely owned by the IBHA youth activity member or the youth
member's father, mother, stepparent, brother, sister, grandparent, or legal guardian (as evidence by court
documents) may be exhibited by the youth in youth activity events or contests. Horses registered in a
ranch or farm name, or corporation, or company do not qualify for youth activity evens. Horses owned in
partnership or joint ownership with any person other than those listed previously do not qualify for youth
activity events.
4. Once a horse is nominated with a youth for an event, only that youth can show that horse in the
nominated event for the points. To be eligible for the all-around youth award, a rider may use only one (1)
horse for youth classes, however, a rider may use another horse in a given event but those points will not
count for all-around.
5. There may be one (1) change of horse for the season due to either injury or sale of the first horse. If a
horse is to be replaced for the youth event, notice must be given in writing stating so and the replacement
horse must be IBHA registered and continued to be used for the balance of the year.
6. MABA will not allow stallions to be shown by a youth in any youth class.
7. The fee of $10.00 will be charged for each high point category in the youth point system. A blanket
nomination fee of $30.00 covers nominations in 3 or more categories. No fee is charged for high point or
reserve high point titles as listed in rule #9.
